Shorty’s Sewer Service was started in 1957 by Shorty (Robert Arthur Beekman) in Angola, IN. Shorty was trained by his uncle Howard Taft Beekman who had sewer & drain cleaning and septic tank pumping businesses in San Antonio, TX and Marion, IN. Initially the local Angola Cab Company next to the Henry Hotel received calls for Shorty’s Sewer Service but later all operations were done by Beverly Beekman at the family home. After Shorty’s death in 1980 Shorty’s wife Beverly Beekman took over full daily operations of the business until 1997. Beverly continued to work for Shorty’s Sewer Service until she retired in February 2008.
Howard T Beekman (Robert & Beverly Beekman’s son) worked in the business while growing up. Howard attended college at Tri State University in Angola, IN and was drafted in the US Army in January 1971. Howard retired from the US Army October 1993. Howard came home to work in the family business and assumed all business operating responsibilities in January 1997 until present.
